What Does BDE Stand For?

BDE is an acronym which stands for Beginner Driver Education. It is a driving course approved by the ministry of Transportation (MTO) in which students are required to finish 20 hours of in class training, 10 hours in-vehicle training and 10 hours of homework. The ministry recognizes that the Beginner Driver Education (BDE) Program is a key component of road safety initiatives in Ontario.
The BDE Curriculum Standards came into effect on September 1st, 2009 and were developed by the Canadian Standards Association. Long term outcomes of the updated BDE Curriculum Standards include many benefits that will help improve drivers and road safety in Ontario. Some key benefits of the updated course include Flexibility for driving schools and students, enhanced driver mobility and novice drivers who drive in a confident and safe manner, Improved driving competency of novice drivers, Enhanced road safety for all road users and many more anticipated benefits to be seen as more students learn how to properly drive on Canadian roads.
One key feature of completing the an approved BDE course ensures drivers receive a 4 month reduction from the 12 month waiting period to receive their G2 license. By enrolling in one of our BDE Drivers Education “Drivers Ed.” course packages, you will be eligible to take the G2 road test 4 months earlier — having to wait 8 months instead of 12.
